David Hirst
David Hirst is undoubtedly a modern Hillsborough legend. Bought from Barnsley in 1986 for £300,000 he made his debut at the start of the 1986/7 season against Charlton and scored his first goal 2 days later in a score draw against, Everton. Hirst was part of the Wednesday team that got relegated to the second division in the 1989-90 season and still managed to score 14 goals, the season after he scored 24 goals which were integral in getting the Owls promoted. Throughout the 90’s Hirst would go on to record 3 appearance for England, win the league cup and surpassing the 100 goal mark. He was renowned as being a strong, pacy striker with an eye for goal and was a fans favourite. He was transferred to Southampton in 1997 for £2 million.
