George Utley 1913-21
Utley was a right back who harked back to a time where players not only played football but had full time jobs alongside this; he came from mining stock but went into being a joiner. In his playing career he won a FA cup with Sheffield United and was credited with being largely responsible for the victory in the match and the preceding rounds. With footballers not as well paid as their modern day contemporaries Utley caused controversy by taking a testimonial when he had only been playing four years which was not the done thing, but none the less the fans still backed him.
